Well, I’ve been reviewing the submission guidelines for many of the literary agents on Agent Inbox. I’ve noticed many of them require writers to include a book synopsis with their submissions. Of course, now I’m reading online and trying to discern what exactly writing a book synopsis entails.
Here are a few things that are getting mentioned a lot. I’m a bit thick, but I’m guessing these points are vital for any writer trying to forge a book synopsis:
1) Must be brief, three pages or less.
2) Must hit on all the major plot points that move the story forward.
3) Shouldn’t include minor characters.
4) Should be well written and entertaining. (Well, duh?)
5) Apparently, they’re also a real pain in the butt.
Wish me luck as I tackle writing the dreaded Book Synopsis for Dodging Demons.
